Acupuncture has been used as a system of healing for thousands of years. Styles have evolved in China, Japan, Korea, and Europe. At the heart of its philosophy is the notion that a type of energy, known as qi (pronounced "chee") which motivates all natural phenomenon, flows through channels/meridians in the body. Each meridian connects to an organ system that governs particular actions of the body and mind. When the energy in the meridians is balanced, we have health and well -being. When too little or too much qi exists in a meridian; or when it is stagnant or blocked, illness results. Acupuncture points act as gateways to access these meridians, supporting the body’s innate ability to rebalance and heal itself.

At BAP, after filling out a short health history form, you will sit down with an acupuncturist and briefly discuss what it is you’d like to address. They will feel your pulse on both wrists, ask to look at your tongue, and choose to work on certain meridians based on what they observe. Tiny, sterile stainless steel needles are used in the treatments and there is no pain involved. People report feeling a light pressure or heat sensation where the points are, and a deep relaxed state throughout the whole body and mind. Sessions last about an hour.
