Depending on your diagnosis, some of the other modalities may be incorporated into your treatment.

Moxabustion treats and prevents diseased by applying heat to points or certain locations on the body. It is made from the Artemesi Vulgaris plant (a type of chrysanthemum) and is used in conjunction with acupuncture. The herb is either heated directly on acupoints, or it is packed into stick or cone form and lightly burned over the desired points. There is no burning or scarring involved.

Cupping is a therapy used mainly on the back to increase circulation in tight muscles and to relieve congested lungs. A vacume is created in small glass jar using a pump or heat method and then applied to the skin. The skin and the underlying musculature is lifted up to allow increased blood flow in the area. Sometimes the cups are moved around on the skin in order to increase efficacy.

The technique of Gua Sha
refers to the use of the smooth edge of a tool gently applied in a swift downward motion on tight muscles. First the practitioner will apply a salve or oil on the skin and then the gua sha is used until the area has relaxed and increased in circulation.
