Practitioners at BAP will often suggest adding or eliminating certain foods in your diet in order to facilitate optimal health and healing. This information is given in conjunction with acupuncture treatment and is not a separate service.

Herbalists at the Brooklyn Acupuncture Project are trained in both Chinese and Western practices. The practitioner will prescribe a formula based on your symptoms and what the pulse and tongue diagnosis tell them about the root cause of the disorder.

Herbal remedies come in various forms. Western herbs are most commonly taken in tincture or tea form. Tinctures are made from soaking medicinal herbs in either alcohol or glycerin for a certain amount of time so that the therapeutic properties of the plants are extracted into the liquid. Chinese herbs come in pill, powder, and tea form. The pills are standard formulas made from the pulverized herbs. The powders are also pulverized herbs, but are taken in warm water as a draft. Teas are made at home by boiling and simmering the actual herbs for a certain amount of time. Each form has its benefits and will be decided based on what works best for you lifestyle.

Herbs can be taken for a short or long period of time, depending on what is being treated. Herbs are paid for separately.
